Waxing, epilation, shaving – we all use these standard methods for removal of unwanted hair. But no matter how comfortable we are with them, there is no way to deny their greatest shortcoming – their very short effect length, and the need to constantly set aside time to do them.
Laser hair removal is the best method to remove unwanted hair. You only need a few procedures (1 per month) to say goodbye to it forever. But in order to maximize your results, you need to prepare yourself in 7 very short and easy steps.
STEP 1: DO NOT BLEACH HAIR
Laser hair removal has best results when the hairs are darker (i.e. with more pigment). If you bleach them, you will hamper the aiming of the laser beam and will not achieve such good results. This is why you should not use hair lightening products for at least 6 weeks (or 42 days) before undergoing laser hair removal to give hair enough time to regain its natural color.
STEP 2: FORGET ABOUT WAXING AND EPILATION
Epilating and waxing harm the uppermost layer of the skin, making it more sensitive. To ensure your maximal comfort, do not wax or epilate for at least 3 weeks before the laser procedure. Otherwise, not only will you feel irritation during therapy, but the result will also not be as good.
STEP 3: BE CAREFUL WITH THE SUN
You need to protect yourself from the sun’s rays and not to go to the tanning salon 7 days before and 7 days after your laser procedure. The reason – unwanted pigmentation or skin irritation may occur. This is why it’s necessary to use sun cream on the treated zone if it can’t be covered. Also, it is recommended not to use exfoliant or bronzing lotion, and to leave your spa and sauna visits until after the end of the course of laser procedures.
STEP 4: SHAVE THE AREA YOU WILL TREAT
12 hours before your appointment for laser hair removal, you should shave the area which is to be treated. To do this, use a razor or trimmer. Why is this necessary? If the hairs have grown past the skin’s surface (even if only by a few millimeters), they will “suck out” the laser’s energy. So, instead of reaching deep into the hair follicle to neutralize it, the laser will only burn away the visible part of the hair.
STEP 5: DO NOT USE EPILATING CREAMS OR OTHER COSMETIC PRODUCTS BEFORE THE LASER PROCEDURE
Immediately before conducting your laser procedure, it is necessary to clean the skin in the area to be treated. For this purpose, use only soap and warm water. In no case should you apply cosmetics (such as cream, deodorant, lotions, make-up) on the zone, since their ingredients often negatively influence the end results.
STEP 6: DON’T WORRY AND BE HONEST
Before the procedure, always inform your therapist if you have allergies, skin conditions or are taking medication. This way, you can avoid any side-effects and will insure yourself in case laser hair removal just isn’t suitable for your skin.
STEP 7: A DAY WITHOUT SPORTS AND SPA
Since laser hair removal opens the pores, the skin becomes more vulnerable and susceptible to infection right after the procedure. It is a good idea to take some precautions while you wait for it to recover. Skip the sweating in the gym and sauna, as well as chlorinated water in the pool and jacuzzi up to 2-3 days after the procedure.
WHAT WILL YOU ACHIEVE WITH THESE 7 STEPS?
- You will reduce the risk of side effects
- You will ensure your complete comfort during the procedure
- You will get the most out of your laser procedures
- You will receive wonderful and long-lasting results.
